Time To Live As If This World Is Truly Yours

I spent last week with a friend who is making enormous headway in her vet studies and could, IF SHE CHOOSES To CONTINUE AND FINISH, truly make significant contributions to the world of epidemiology and animal medicine. Surprising to me, she was contemplating stopping her studies to focus all her energies on addressing the growing problems of globalization. As an example, she mentioned the American beef feed conundrum: we import most of our soybean feed from China, being cost effective right now, instead of using our american-grown soybeans. This causes so much fuel to be used ti deliver it; local farmers have to sell their beans elsewhere; the american economy is not fueled by local consumption; and the growing trade deficit with China is maintained if not increased. Someone needs to be out there thinking this through and figuring better use of all the resources and man-power.

As we chatted, she expressed the only hopes she had for a better future lay in changing legislation, and changing world policy on such topics as how we make use of global resources. Remarkable to me was the fact that she considered her situation an "either/or" situation. Either be a responsible world citizen or pursue one's interests. Equally interesting to me was her faith in governmental and global organizations as bodies that could adequately address the situation.

I began to realize what I believe about all this: ENTIRELY UP TO US. Any and all changes that are for the better world will come from the grass roots up, not the government down. This is not to bash diligently working in governmental capacities. IT IS however to say, I find I have been, continue to and plan on taking care of any/all issues I can possibly address MYSELF, with My money, without the thought of "Well if I invest inthis where is my min of 6% (!) return on investment?) It seems we are all waiting to get things done on a large scale when it is we who are the potent and the able.

My Plan

I want to

1)help friends and family, nuclear and extended, debt free, out of the shop til you drop habits, owning their houses and cars outright: I have learned how any/all homeowners can do so in 7 years or less; then set some money aside for emergencies, some invested, some at home.

2) encourage them to help others do the same. the less peopel on this earth are owned by others, the less vulnerable they are long term (obviously).

3) get everyone growing at least enough greens to get a pound of greens a day per person. (It does not take that much land to get this amount). This addresses food needs as well as countless health concerns.

4)get everyone clear on water: how to purify it and where their source comes from, and suggest possible oterh ways to get one's own water as an individual or as a group - all this on a local micro level.

5) Encourage local economies as much as possible: for example, if all beefeaters found out which OG cattle was raised on local grown foods and not foreign grown foods - and only consumed these sources of beef - might this be a way to discourage if not end the ridiculous use of fuel and other resources to feed our cattle?

6) Pour my money into energy answers that work

7) change my cars to being alcohol powered rather than fossil fueled and produce our own local fuels from plant matter (careful.. we might wind up dead for such treasonous acts as this (Kid you not! A Farmer in Ruch who distilled his own tractor fuel from his farm was invaded by government helicopters and land vehicles, his still, barn and house burned, and his life threatened!) )

8) start to think about someother answers I want to help others with, now that I am OK.. Could be in the form of debt relief, or change their fuel source, or install solar panels on their roof so as to reduce their energy consumption and help them with their bills (HECK! solar panels for effective water heating = less than $2000. So: $10,000 does 5 houses ====> impact on power grid? Substantially less power used by those 5 households.)

9 ) Get the general idea that with enough of us not cooperating with bad things, bad things do not have a chance.

That's all for now, I'm going to go and garden.. YAY!
